Have bike will travel …

Chas and I are heading to the cottage for a month.

This time, we are flying. Today I gave him a good cleaning and then removed his wheels, saddle, pedals, and handle bars ready for packing into the TC1 travel case.

I can’t imagine travelling without a bike. What would I do? I get so much pleasure from cycling and love exploring new roads. I’m thinking of this trip as a training camp. For those of you familiar with this blog, you know that I’m preparing for the Whistler Gran Fondo in September. Just because I’m going away doesn’t mean I can stop training. I won’t have mountains to climb and descend but I will have unlimited miles of quiet country roads to strengthen my base and work on technical skills. And, I won’t have the gym to do heavy lifting. Instead, I’ll do high-rep body weight training emphasizing single-leg lunges, planks, leg raises, and burpees.

I think of this month as an opportunity to lose weight, and improve my power/weight ratio. I need to continue getting stronger and lighter if I’m going to complete the Fondo in a reasonable time. I’ll be alone most of the time, so it will be easier to maintain a low calorie, low carb diet.

I’m a simple cook. That’s an understatement. I’m not much of a cook at all. I’m good at putting  cereal on the table, and I make a mean salad, frittata, and veggie burger. That’s right. That will be my diet for a month. No dairy. No bread. And a lot of fresh fruit.

One month to lose 6 pounds. That will put me at my ideal weight, a weight I haven’t seen for 20 years.
