I wear a Suunto M5 training watch, and have commented on it several times in the past. Today, following a 2.5 hour ride with Chas, my coach-on-the-wrist told advised “Fitness level excellent reached”. I have been “excellent” before. Every winter for the past 5-6 years, I subscribe to the Suunto’s M5 8-week training programme. What is different this time is that I have focused on wattage not heart rates. My M5 tells me I am “excellent”, and I like to hear that, but more importantly I have increased my power output by 12-15% during the same period. I’ll know more precisely next week when I re-test my FPT.
I don’t want to belabour the point. I just thought you should know that I’m “excellent” 😎 If you need a new training partner, I would suggest you introduce yourself to the Suunto M5.
