I drove through light rain early this morning, and showers were forecast throughout the day. I didn’t want the boys to get wet so I brought out the bike covers and secured them with duct tape to prevent further tearing. It seemed to work. They stayed in tact, and the boys dry.
Chas: “No! No! Not this! First you tie me down. Now you blindfold me. What’s next? I need to spin my wheels.”
Lou: “What are the other boys going to think of us? You never see them looking like this.”
I like to keep the boys covered. It protects them from the rain, keeps the bugs off, and more importantly, keeps them out of site from would be thieves.
Chas: “When you said ‘road trip’, I thought you meant riding me.”
Lou: “Someone rescue me from this. Take me away. I just want to roll again.”
The duct tape worked. Necessity is the mother of invention. I realized bike bags need to be strapped down for highway speeds to prevent flapping and tearing. For the return trip, I’ll get several tie down straps. They will look better, and be easier to secure.
Chas: “What, I have to go back like this? No way! Leave me at the cottage. I’ll be here when you come back next year.”
When I get back home, I am going to make custom fitting, waterproof bags for each bike, sized to minimize unnecessary flapping, and with pull ties along the top fitting under the bars and saddle, and perpendicular ones around each of the wheels.
Lou: “Stop talking like this. We want to roll not be strapped down for days.”
The boys will be glad I kept them dry and warm.
Chas: “What are you thinking? Get me out of here.”
Can’t wait to hear about the bickering between the two when one has to stay home and the other gets to roll!
Too bad they don’t make that shrink wrap type stuff they use for boat storage for bikes!
Today I discovered a woman that makes custom covers for bikes. I am going to get a quote from her and will write a post about it if I decide to proceed.
Excellent, I look forward to it!
