I am keeping an eye on the weather for Sunday’s Pacific Populaire 100 km ride. The forecast keeps changing, not unusual for these parts. For now, a “chance” of rain is forecast with a little wind. I will ride regardless. It is just more enjoyable when it is warm and dry. And, to be honest, I don’t like getting the bike dirty.
Today it is warm and sunny. I have the day off and plan to do a 75-80 km ride. I cleaned, tuned and installed new Michelin tires on the Roberts yesterday in preparation for today’s ride. This will be my final long ride before Sunday. A rehearsal, if you like. I am going to experiment with clothing. I am not certain which jacket and base layer to wear. My rain jacket keeps me dry but does not breath well and I overheat. My wind jackets don’t keep me dry and I can easily get chilled. And, I am going to try taking a sandwich with me for additional fuel. I don’t usually do this, relying mostly on the Vega gels.
So much to consider. There was once a time I simply got on my bike and rode it. At times, I think I over prepare. This is supposed to be fun. Right?
