What is content marketing?

What is content marketing?

With content marketing businesses provide content that their customers want or need, in exchange for their attention.

This content can be in the form of blog posts, e-mail newsletters, YouTube videos, SlideShare presentations, or some other form.  No matter the format, the point of content marketing is to provide content that customers want, in exchange for their attention, and this is what separates it from traditional advertising.

LinkedIN recognizes the significance of content marketing and has made it very easy for their users to share material.  Not only can you share links to on-line content and comment on it, the social media site enables users to integrate Word Press blog posts and SlideShare presentations.    This is such an integral part of the LinkedIn platform that on May 3rd, 2012 they purchased SlideShare for a reported $118.8 million.

SlideShare is YouTube for PowerPoint presentations. The application allows you to upload PPT and PDF files, display them on your LinkedIN Profile and share them with your connections.  PowerPoint and Adobe are the languages of business; how businesses communicate with one another.  SlideShare simply enables you to share what you are already doing with a wider audience.

SlideShare was launched in October of 2006.  Since that time, the application has realized substantial growth.  In 2012, it was voted one of the Top 10 Tools for education and e-learning by Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies.  Today they are over 16 million registered users posting more than 10,000 presentations every day.

If you have not already done so, add a SlideShare account to your LinkedIn Profile.
